Where Are YOU?

whereareyou

As we come into a new year, it is an appropriate time to think about where you are at.  I once had a professor that said to the class that you only need to have one piece of information to know how to get to your next destination.  That information is your location NOW.

~You cannot get to where you are going if you do not know where you are at. ~

God firsts asks Adam where he is at in the Garden of Eden.

They heard the sound of the Lord God walking in the garden at the time of the evening breeze, and the man and his wife hid themselves from the presence of the Lord God among the trees of the garden. But the Lord God called to the man, and said to him, “Where are you?” 10 He said, “I heard the sound of you in the garden, and I was afraid, because I was naked; and I hid myself.”                                               ~Genesis 3:8-10

Where are you?  These are the words that God spoke to Adam in the Garden of Eden after the first sin (Gen. 3:8-10).  Do you really think that God did not know where Adam was physically?  Of course God knew where Adam was hanging out.  God is God.  He is all knowing.  Adam had disobeyed.  He was full of guilt and shame in his nakedness.  Adam was not confident in where he stood in relationship with God when God called out to him.  The relationship changed and God outlined the new parameters for him and the woman showing consequences of their sin, but still caring so much to make clothes to cover their shame (Gen. 3:16-21).

The answer to the “where are you” question can be found in Isaiah (and other parts of the Bible, but I happen to like Isaiah).

Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding a live coal that had been taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. The seraph touched my mouth with it and said: “Now that this has touched your lips, your guilt has departed and your sin is blotted out.” Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying, “Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?” And I said, “Here am I; send me!”
~Isaiah 6:6-8

When God said “who shall I send,” Isaiah answered, “Here I am, send me.”  Here I am.  Isaiah knew where he was in relationship to God because his “guilt has departed” and his sin was “blotted out” so he could go on the journey which God would send him.  Isaiah was confident in where he was standing in relationship with God at that moment.  He knew exactly where he stood so he could go on a journey of direction.

Is God asking you where you are at?  Are you clear in your relationship with God?  Only sin, guilt, and shame can prevent us from knowing where we are at in relationship with God.   This time of prayer and fasting is a perfect time to turn away from sin and leave our guilt and shame at the door.   Know that God has provided redemption through the saving grace of Jesus Christ and that He forgives you in repentance.

~Clear the air in your relationship with God.~

Join us on this 21 day fast.  Jan. 3rd – Jan. 24th.  Give up something that burdens you with guilt and shame.

~When God asks where you are, be ready to stand up.  Be ready to shout out.  HERE I AM.~
